Nocomply Records

Nocomply Records is an ecommerce website created for a online music store of the same name.

The site was created entirely from the ground up to encompass everything that would be required and expected from an ecommerce website. All aspects of the site was done in collaboration with the store owner.

Usability Requirements

• Provide extensive database of Vinyl records, CDs and cassettes
• Provide simple and advanced searches for artists, albums and tracks
• Allow intuitive browsing by artist or album alphabetically and from results or product items
• Integrate Paypal and Google chekout systems into shopping cart
• Integrate with Paypal IPN for payment progress updates
• Provide order management and order lookup for customers
• Provide detailed management of products
• Integrate with Discogs for adding products
• Allow management of product templates and styles
• Allow management of product formats and respective postal charges

Implementation

Product Search

As an ecommerce site the search is an important factor. Results had to be comprehensive for wide searches but allow users to easily narrow the results to find the products they were most interested in.

Incorporating browsing features with typical search features the search constantly provides a way to find products of the same artist, or similar titles, prices and formats.

Shopping Cart

Products are added to the shopping cart with AJAX to prevent disrupting the users progress though the site.

Cheque, Paypal and Google payment methods are accepted, with Paypal being the most comprehensive.

Purchases with Paypal make use of Paypals Instant Payment Notification system. This provides information for the progress of payment made via Paypal. Allowing the site orders system to notify the manager of completed orders in need of dispatch.

Discogs Integration

Discogs provides an API for finding records by catalog number or other search criteria. The information on Discogs was harnessed to minimize the information the manager was required to manually enter to add a product to the site.

Site Management

To ensure the products display and site color style matched the companies scheme the products display was templates and access given though the site administration to modify this template and the sites CSS files.
